“So do you want to go to this party?’’ Griffin says. “Yeah it will be fun.” I reply “But we won’t know anyone there,” “We will know Kyle so let’s just go” I say. Later that night we get to the party. As soon as my friend and I walk in I hear the loud music and the sound of people talking. I immediately see Kyle. We sit down and start talking to some people. It’s pretty fun the sound of music and people is flowing through the house. Almost instantly I see some people pull out some pot and start smoking. I don’t really care and I try to ignore it. That’s when I hear “Jorden want some?’’ “No man, I’m good.” I reply “Come on man don’t be scared it’s not even bad.” I begin to feel really mad and instantly with no warning my flashback begins.
It was only a year ago and I was in a situation just like this. Someone was trying to get me to do something. At the time I didn’t know what to do and I felt like if I called my mom I would make myself look bad. So I went outside and called Shane which was my step dad. “Hey Shane , can you come pick me up?’’ I asked him ‘’Yeah I will be there soon” Shane replied. I stayed outside till Shane got to the house. I saw the bright headlights to his car this made me really nervous because I didn’t want to tell him anything. I was afraid I would get in trouble or something. I got in the car, trying to hide the fact that I was upset.
I have only been in the car for about 30 seconds but it felt like 30 minutes. Shane knew something was wrong because I wasn’t talking at all. “What’s wrong Jorden?” I figured I should just tell him. “Well while I was at the party some guys tried getting me to do something I didn’t want to do.” “What was it?” Shane asked “They just wanted me to drink and smoke with them…” I was nervous at that moment that he was going to be mad, but instead he simply said, “Well, you did the right thing by calling me and that situation shows who your real friends are. Don’t ever hesitate to call me when you need something, even if it’s in the middle of the night.” After this moment I gained so much respect for Shane and it made me feel so much more comfortable around him.
It made me realize why I respected Shane so much. When he was young he would always get in to fights, skip school, he would never listen to anybody and he would just do what he pleased. As he grew up he had a lot of issues, like his dad not being in his life, which I could relate to because my dad isn’t in mine. He is really successful now and is very respectful and overall a really good person. That’s why I respected him so much.
After the flashback I remembered all of the things Shane said to me. “Do you want to leave Griffin?’’ “Yeah let’s go” Griffin replied. We stood up told everyone we were leaving. We walked outside and called Griffins mom. She picked us up and took us to Griffin’s. I really respect Shane for telling me all of those things and that’s what makes him my hero.
